Course Contents
The internship consist of a mathematical modeling project which is carried out at an institute outside the department Applied Mathematics (DIAM).

Students with a Bachelor degree other than a BSc in Mathematics from the TU Delft may choose an internship that is carried out at DIAM.
Study Goals
1. Getting experience with real life applications of mathematics.

2. Becoming aware of the societal relevance and societal contexts of applications of mathematics

3. Getting experience with institutes where mathematics is used for solving practical problems.

4. Getting experience with communicating with non-mathematician.

5. Writing about real life applications of mathematics for non-mathematician.

Education Method
The project is carried out at an institute where the mathematics itself is generally not of primary interest but merely a tool to solve practical problems. The duration of a project can be two (wi5012) or three months (wi5118). Students interested in an internship have to contact the coordinator Prof. dr. ir. A.W. Heemink (phone +31 (0)15 2785813, E-mail: a.w.heemink@tudelft.nl). Before the project starts the student has to write a short proposal. If the proposal is approved by the coordinator, the student can start with the project.
Assessment
The project has to be concluded with a written report. Furthermore the supervisor at the host institute will have to fill in the evaluation form. Finally students have to write in addition to the report a short note about their internship to inform other students about their internship.
