Course Contents
Introduction into error-correcting codes; mathematical basics; block codes fundamentals; cyclic codes; co-operating codes; soft-decision decoding; convolutional codes; iterative decoding (turbo codes, LDPC codes); applications (space and satellite communications; GSM; Compact Disc; football pool).
Study Goals
The goal of this course is to provide a broad overview of error correction techniques. Such techniques are applied in order to protect information against errors which may occur during transmission or storage. The emphasis will be on the basic trade-offs between efficiency, reliability, and complexity. Most results are presented without proofs (the interested reader may consult books from the bibliography).
