Expected prior knowledge
The TU Delft courses Telecommunication Techniques (ET2505-D2/ET3505-D1 or ET8002a) and Telecommunication Networks (ET3505-D2 or ET8002b), or similar courses from other universities.
Course Contents
Systems engineering in telecom; link budget analysis; channel models (e.g., satellite link, terrestrial line-of-sight link, mobile radio link); multiplexing (e.g., TDM, SDH); multiple access (e.g., FDMA, TDMA, CDMA, Aloha); channel coding; power-bandwidth trade-off; cases (e.g., introducing mobile communications on a tropical island).
Study Goals
The main goal of this course is to extend the analytical knowledge obtained in the basic courses to the synthetic skills of systems engineering and the design of means of digital transmission, used in modern public and business networks.
