Course Contents
This course draws upon the students’ technical backgrounds (“domain”) by providing them means and tools to reflect on design and design methods in their domain. After two generic introductory lectures, the students will deepen their design knowledge in three separate, domain-related groups: Energy & Industry, Information & Communication Technology, Transport & Logistics. During the workshops the students will discuss and deepen the design issues by means of key scientific articles. The lessons learned in the separate workshops will be discussed with all students in the final class.

Study Goals
After following this course, the student must be able to:

describe the design of artifacts (products, processes, services, organization)
describe the design processes of multi-actor systems
distinguish between various design schools
execute the basics of requirements engineering
solve simple design problems by conceptual design
select an appropriate design method/process for a given design problem or case
discuss in-depth the design and design processes in his/her background field
reflect upon the role as an intermediary between the design department and other departments, e.g. marketeers
reflect on the management of a design process.
